Coate's Branded Simpsons Shaving Brushes - Getting Rarer Day By Day!

Coate's Branded Simpsons Shaving Brushes - Getting Rarer Day By Day!

This attractive little Coate’s branded shaving brush is modelled on a brush that first appeared during the 1930's and has a hand lathe-turned handle filled with pure badger hair. Simpsons produced this line of “Fitzwilliam” brushes under the Coate’s brand name. The Coate's brush company was founded in 1847 by the original owner James Coate in London. In about 1875 the company was relocated to two factories one in Axminster, Devon and the other in Chard, Somerset where they continued making hair brushes and toothbrushes. In 1941 the shaving brush company Simpsons lost their factory during the blitz and in the spirit of wartime cooperation Coate’s allowed them to continue production at their factory in Chard, the companies continued to work side by side till eventually Coate's joined with Simpsons around 1990.

These Coate's Fitzwilliam shaving brushes date from before the take over of the Simpsons brand in 2008 and were manufactured in Somerset about 10 years ago, but only became available to buy around three years ago. The graduated handle shape has original Simpsons lamp blacked detail to both sides, making the Coate's Fitzwilliam a highly collectible piece of shaving history. Due to the limited quantities left of these Coate's branded brushes, we are only making these shaving brushes available to buy in-store at our Dundee shop or by telephone order - 01382 801504 ask for Ian.
